Whats the Big Deal

I am totally opening myself up to all kinds of feedback, don't judge me too harshly.
We rented New Moon last night, no we didn't go see it in the theater, and no we weren't standing in line at midnight so we could get it. So I watched it this morning while I was face booking and folding laundry ect, I am sorry but I just don't get what the big stinking deal is about this whole twilght series, I don't get what people are so obsessed with. As far as movies go, it doesn't really stand out to me as the best ever nor is it the worst I have ever seen. Its ok as movies go, I just don't get what everyone is so obsessed with. I have had loads of people tell me I need to read the books, when I have said its really not what I am really into that kind of reading, they have insisted I just have to start and I wont be able to put it down. My sister in law actually let me borrow her copy of the first one about a year ago and I have to admit I haven't made it past chapter 4 maybe 5. So for me I just don't get what the big deal is with these movies and/or books. That does not mean I wont watch them all, I probably will just to watch them, but own them probably not. Before you all rush to tell me I just need to give them a chance, you have to remember I am an action/ disaster and comedy movie girl. I love the die hards, the lethal weapons, yes I know they are rated R. I don't do chick flick very often. As far as how life is going right now that's another post for when I have more time, but it is coming I promise I know that many of my faithful readers are sitting on the edge of their seats in anticipation on the latest in the Merkley saga

Well I don't think you're the only one that feels that way. And I daresay most people that are into them would admit they aren't the best writing out there or the best movies. It's just something else.

Yeah, the movies aren't all that amazing. The books are way better in my opinion.

Just like everything in the world each person is and indvidual and therfore each person has their own likes and dislikes. I'm right there with you on the movies. They are okay. In my opinion the books are 100% better. But, like ever good book that is turned into a movie you just have to take it as a grain of salt.

I think the movies are terrible - and they aren't accurate to the books either. Very disappointing.

Books about vampires are definitely not my thing, but I started reading one because my young cousin was obsessed with it and I wanted to see what was going on. The books are SO very well written. The author just has a wonderful way of drawing the reader into her stories and keeping them hanging on every word.

Still not big on the whole vampire thing, but definitely a fan of her writing style! :)

I've said it: Kristen Stewart is as bad an actress as Stephanie Meyer a terrible writer. I've read almost the first two books... because everyone was so obsessed about them and I had researched a little bit about what they were about and I though "hum, modern-day fantasy, that sounds like fun!" and Ryan got me all four books for Christmas 2008. Now I HAVE to read them. Hahaha!

Reading those books is a total struggle; it's like having to watch Stewart's expressionless face declaring love, hate and fear with the same look in her eyes for two hours. Meyer lacks expression as well and what she lacks in expression she makes up for in endless and repetitive descriptions of the characters... I understand teenagers like these books because they are easy to read and the story (a modern-day romance with classic fantasy characters, a nicely done combo) are captivating. What teenager doesn't want to read about the odd girl out falling in love with the mysterious, cutest guy in the whole school? Who, to sum up, is loaded and drives a fancy Volvo in Podunk, WA? It's very relatable to every teenager's fantasy who thinks she is the odd girl out.

But Sharon, we're grown up, it's natural that we don't like it and that we can see it a little less emotionally. Now, when 25+ year old women scream frantically at the sight of Lautner or Pattinson... CREEEEEEPYYYY!!

All three of my kids are avid readers and I love the series just for the simple fact that there isn't any swearing, explicit sex scenes etc. Some of the books that my girls (11 and 14) were encouraged to read had both! They were for "young readers". I'm so pleased that Twilight is a big deal because they were able to make a movie without the inappropriate stuff and I was able to sit through the movie with my 3 oldest kids without feeling embarrassed.

The movies are a little bit inappropriate... I wouldn't let a teenager see those scenes of passionate kissing. The books ARE clean, though. Kuddos for that.
