I need your opinions!!

Ok so we got a phone call from Cale's friend Corey this morning about a possible job doing maintenance at their Apartment complex. Well we called on it and went and talked to the manager. We would only have to do 20-25 hrs a week pretty simple stuff. Cleaning after move outs which I know can be pretty bad sometimes, possibly painting, making minor repairs, picking up garbage that kind of stuff nothing to terribly major. They have someone who takes care of the lawn so we wouldn't have to worry about that. That pays for a decent sized 3 bedroom 2 bath apartment and give a few hundred extra a month. It will also mean that we'll save $550 a month cause that's what we pay now for rent. Major plus is that she has absolutely no problem what so ever with me having the kids with me while I am cleaning and what not. I have been looking for something I could do kind of part time that I could take my kids with me ( when we finally get them) with out it being a problem and this would work. She said its pretty quiet over there, its not a HUGE complex no fights really ( we called the cops on the neighbors again cause he hit his kid and was yelling profanities that I could hear from inside our house with the washer and dryer and TV going. The apartment is pretty decent like I said 3 bed 2 bath which having 2 baths is huge especially with kids around. BUT it would mean moving, packing up all our stuff and moving again. It means that when Cale gets home from work already exhausted that he could have more work to do including on his Saturdays. We're perfectly fine where we are at right now we are settled. We're just getting tired of our landlords. I am debating about possibly taking over my Mother in laws job flyering for Domino's cause I could take our kids with me and pretty much do it as I want to but I don't think it would be near the pay what it would be doing the maintenance stuff so we are kind a leaning towards that if they decide to hire us. We have to take the applications back tomorrow and then they set up interviews and what not. So what do you guys think, would you take it if it were offered. It doesn't seem like anything major as far as work goes and I know I could do most of it myself so Cale would only have to take care of the major more complicated stuff, which isn't really that major of stuff. So what would you guys do??

Hard to say. I had a maintenance job for a couple years and it is easy work. Actually, Sean does the maint. for the theater so we get in the movies free. I am not opposed to moving but is sounds like maybe you are. We have moved 11 times in 6 yrs. and we are looking at another house right now. I am paranoid sometimes so I haven't always felt safe in the places we have lived. Having to protect 4 little kids when I am home alone is a worry for me. Will you have to move again if the job doesn't work out? I love having a yard for the kids. Will that be an issue in the future? It would be good to have extra money to put away!! It's not cheap to buy stuff on a few days notice for kids! Hope my input helps!

Hey Sharon,
Well, if you're looking to save a little money on rent this is the way to go. It really isn't all that bad to have to pick up garbage of the grounds and stuff but the part that will really suck is having to clean apartments. Most of the time tenants don't care how they leave them and they can get pretty nasty. You should also ask what the standard of cleaning is that they are looking for. Do they want you to clean carpets and other major stuff like that? Just something to think about, otherwise it sounds like a nice situation.

We're not opposed to moving exactly I just don't want to deal with the hassle. But for free rent and some extra it would be worth it. It would help us get a head big time, get some student loans paid off, which is a huge thing hanging over us. So we are going to apply and if they offer us the job then i think we are going to take it.
I totally get the safety thing we don't feel completely secure here where we are right now and I think it would be better over there. Getting our license redone wont be to big a thing Angela just has to do a walk through. I think we have pretty much decided that if its offered we'll take it. Your right it really shouldn't be too major of work nothing I can't handle.
thanks

Sounds like you've mostly made up your mind, but just from hearing about where you live, it sure sounds worth it to just get away from there . . .?

Oh my gosh! I'd move out asap. The maintenance job isn't too hard by the sounds of it, and it would have to be better than living next to people like you are now--that is so horrible!

Wow - it sounds like a great opportunity - and you would save on rent? NICE!

It sounds as though your current neighbors are so completely out of line and in my oppinion, you won't want to take th erisk of exposing your foster kids to that kind of temper or behavior. Besides, your home should be your safe haven, a place to relax and be happy - it sounds like you really need to get out of there!
